Christianity

Welcome to a new and exciting journey of discovery.

If you are new to Christianity, this page helps you understand what Christianity is all about.

It is a huge deal, yes you are right you may not feel different because giving your life to Christ is a spiritual birth, a new spiritual reality has just begun for you.

2 Corinthians 5:17 (NLT) This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun.

This is what it means to be born again.

A born-again Christian is a person who has asked Jesus to be his/her Lord and saviour.

To be born again, a person must have believed and said this in one form or the other.

Romans 10:9-10 If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved.

Nicodemus a jew was puzzled by this “born again” expression.

John 3:4 (NLT)   “What do you mean?” exclaimed Nicodemus. “How can an old man go back into his mother’s womb and be born again?”

Jesus explains it to Nicodemus.

John 3:5-5 Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit. 6 Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit.

  • The Bible teaches that there is one God who exists in three persons – the Father, the Son (Jesus), and the Holy Spirit. This is called the Trinity.

God the Father

  • He is the one true God (Deuteronomy 4:35,39)
  • He created everything (Genesis 1:1)
  • He will exist forever (Revelation 22:13)

Jesus Christ, the Son

  • God sent His Son Jesus to die for our sins (John 3:16)
  • Jesus died on the cross and rose again to save us (1 Peter 2:24)
  • Jesus is God who became human (John 1:1-14)

The Holy Spirit

  • The Holy Spirit is also fully God (John 14:16-17)
  • He lives in believers and helps us (Romans 8:16)
  • He gives us spiritual gifts and power (1 Corinthians 12:7, Acts 1:8)

Though it’s a deep truth, the Trinity shows that God is one, yet exists as three distinct persons – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit – who work together for our salvation and blessing.

Any living thing that does not grow starts to die. So, we need to grow as a Christian. Here are 3 keyways to grow in Christ:

Read the Bible, Pray, Attend church.

Read the Bible regularly:

the Bible is a collection of spiritual messages/text from God to His creation and children. The Bible was written by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit and impacts all aspects of life – 2 Timothy. 3:16-17, Proverbs 4:20-22. The Bible is the Word of God which cannot change or fail – Isaiah 40:8, Matthew 24:35, Isaiah 55:11. Here are just a few reasons why we read the Bible regularly.

  1. The Word of God cleanses us – John 17:17
  2. The Word of God transforms our mind – Romans 12:2
  3. The Word of God teaches us more about God and reveals His promises to us – John 1:1-3, John 3:16
  4. The Word of God is food for our spirit, so we read it regularly to grow – 2 Peter 2:2, Psalm 19:7
  5. The Word of God guides us – Psalm 119:105

A great place to start reading your Bible is the book of John. It tells us all about God’s love for us and more!

Pray regularly:

praying is as simple as having a conversation. To pray means to talk to God. When you are getting to know someone, you will speak to them regularly; praying helps you to communicate with God. Praying includes thanking God, singing praise songs, asking God for help, speaking out God’s word in faith, etc. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18.

Attend church:

church is a gathering of Christians who are followers of Jesus Christ. Ensure you attend the church that does not reject any part of the Bible. God wants us to attend church services regularly (weekly). The early church met daily Acts 2:46. Here are 5 reasons you should attend church regularly:

  1. Obeying God’s Word – Hebrews 10:25
  2. Fellowship, community and support – Acts 2: 42,44, 45. Hebrews 10:25
  3. Spiritual growth – 1 Peter 2:2, 2 Peter 1:5-8
  4. Opportunities to serve – 1 Peter 4:10, Hebrews 9:14, Hebrews 12:28
  5. To experience different dimensions of encounter with God – Acts 2: 43

Water baptism is a sign of new birth covenant. Water baptism is a symbolic representation of the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ. Going under water represents death and an end to our old life, and coming up out of the water represents us rising to our new spiritual life to sit with Christ in the heavenly places Ephesians 2:5-6. Roman 6:3-6, Galatians 3:27, Mark 16:16.

Heaven is God’s throne Isaiah 66:1. Jesus has prepared a place in Heaven for believers in Him John 14: 2-4. After judgement the believers in Jesus will go to heaven 2 Corinthians 5: 1-2, 10. Hell fire is prepared for the devil and his followers Matthew 25:42. Unbelievers are sent to hell fire along with the devil Revelations 21:8, Mark 9:43. Matthew 25:46. Jesus is the only way to heaven John14:6.

This is a riveting account of a person who died and went to hell.
